Savannah Housing Fair

On Saturday, there was a Housing Fair held at the new EOA building at 1120 May Street. There were enough doughnuts and coffee on hand to wake even the best of them. From 9am till noon, Quennie Parker (912) 238-2690 led short classes on how to become a homeowner. With a focus on education to empower the future buyers, several important aspects of the home buying process were discussed. After a few brief words from Mayor Otis Johnson, several other presenters covered topics from budgeting, credit, and the responsibilities of home ownership.img_0197.jpg

About 150 attendees were introduced to the advantages of owning instead of renting. Chatham County Commissioner Pete Lakakis spoke about the importantance of working together toward the goal of home ownership. Several Realtors spoke about the process of buying a home and encouraged the audience to become “smart buyers.”

“There is a path to home ownership for everyone and you have to invest in yourself” said Re/Max agent Takema Sloman as she presented the 10 steps to buying a house. There were several vendors offering information on different programs to help promote home buying.

My favorite and by far, the most animated speaker was Sonny Colley from Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Savannah. His high energy presentation helped inspire the audience to take the needed steps to make sure their credit was ready. There was a lot of good information presented on Saturday and many left the room determined to find their way home. If you would like any more details on the material presented Saturday, do not hesitate to give me a call.
