City of Savannah’s helping hand.

It was a cold and rainy day here in Savannah, which made for ample parking downtown. You can’t pass that up. I had the chance to speak with Darrel Daise, Director of Community Housing Services Agency (CHSA). We sat down to talk about the city’s effort to increase home ownership.

The City of Savannah’s Department of Housing offers three Dream Maker programs with different levels of assistance - including grants and affordable loans for down payment assistance, closing costs, gap financing and other related expenses.

For homes to qualify for the Dream Maker program, they must be located in the city limits. Buyer qualification is based on income, credit, and work histories. The homes must be owner-occupied. Buyers are required to take a home ownership course to make sure they understand the home buying process as well as the financial responsibility of home ownership.

For more specifics of the Dream Maker programs, contact Mr. Daise at (912) 651-2169 or Carol Ellison at (912) 651-6926. CHSA is located at 6 Easy Bay Street Savannah GA 31401

In addition to the Dream Maker program, the city also provides an employer assited home purchase program. In an effort to help retain and attract City of Savannah employees, the city will offer from $2,000 to $6,000 to help city employees with buying a home within the city limits. There are several program requirements and any interested city employee should speak with Lending Services Coordinator Ann Goldwire at (912) 651-6926.
